Compiled by Gordon Speer, 3304 Woodlawn Road, Sterling, IL 61081

Thomas' parents were John McDill (1675-1761) and Janet LESLIE, of Broghnow, Ballymena Parish, County Antrim, Ireland.
1,1- Thomas H. McDILL (1725-12/4/1794) m. 1760 Margaret CHESTNUT (11/1/1739-12/6/1827)
When the Irish immigrants on the Hopewell discovered they were about to be sold as slaves in the Bahamas, they took
over the ship. With Thomas' help, since he had some sailing experience, they brought the ship safely into Charleston
harbor.	Thomas and Margaret are buried in a tiny cemetery deep in the woods southeast of Chester, South Carolina.
What may have been their home was still standing in 1986, 4/10 of a mile south of Little Rocky Creek on the west side
of Moffat Creek Road. Ask at the next house south for directions to the old overgrown Moffat-Strong-McDill graveyard.
