Cass/Bartow County

Cass County was created from Cherokee lands in 1832 and renamed Bartow County in 1861 (in honor of Frances S Bartow). It is the next County east and contiguous with Floyd County.

Catoosa County

Home of Daniel Cathcart and his family for many decades.

Census enumerations for 1870, 1880 and 1900 are located in "Blackstock."  I've not been able to pinpoint exactly where this town is located.  However, 1889 tax records for Daniel's wife, Susan, indicate that she owned 150 acres (with the value of $500) in the Blackstock Militia District (#1095).    This record indicates that Blackstock was served by the Ringgold  Post Office, and the general layout can be seen in the map to the right.

On that same page, Daniel and Susan's son, David, is listed as owner of 40 acres, valued at $125. (click here for digital image)

Coweta County

Fulton Co.
Several descendants of William Cathcart (1803-1873; married Sarah Lewis) moved to Coweta County, Georgia.  There are several census results that become somewhat muddled because of changes to County borders.  For example, Campbell County no

Coweta Co.
longer exists—becoming part of Fulton County.  We find several of William's descendants living in this area.

A quick look at the maps help sort out some of the locations—especially with respect to the cities of Palmetto (which is now in the southern section of Fulton County) and Newnan (which is still in Coweta County).
